Consecration of BISHOP LEONARD - Vigil of Pentecost - June 15, 2018
BISHOP LEONARD'S EPISCOPAL COAT OF ARMS
The traditional bishop's coat of arms in the Catholic Church starts with the hat which is the galero or pilgrims hat with tassels and green in color.
The shield chosen allows for four quadrants to express the most significant elements of the bishop's history and vision.
The upper left is the "Bunker Hill Flag" - This represents the WALKER family ancestry. His fourth great grandfather Captain Benjamin Walker died of his wounds in the Boston jail having been captured at the Battle of Bunker Hill.
Upper right is the icon of the Divine Savior which honors his 42 years with the Salvatorians. This is also the official icon of his parish DIVINE SAVIOR INDEPENDENT CATHOLIC CHURCH.
The lower left honors his deep commitment and passion for diversity and interfaith relationships. The colors indicate his relationship to the LGBTQ community by virtue of his marriage to George. The circle of people joined together speaks to his years of community building.
The lower right is the empty bowl. This represents his understanding of ministry. Philippians 2:7 - Jesus emptied himself of his divinity to take the form of a slave or servant. Thus ministry is more about becoming empty of oneself and becoming a slave or servant to another in order that they may share their unique gift.
Behind the shield is the cross extended to represent the bishop's crozier which is the sign of his pastoral care and authority.
The banner is his chosen motto: SURRENDER TO GRATITUDE. This sums up what he understands to be the heart and core of all spirituality. It is only when one truly surrenders to God as we understand him both in the good and the bad that we come to experience gratitude and can offer God praise and thanksgiving which is the meaning of Eucharist.

HERE'S SOME REALLY BIG NEWS
George and his brother Michael Francuski have donated land for a new church to be built on the corner of Mission Boulevard and Jackson Street in Kingman. We had a ceremony of transferring the deed and blessing of the land with Archbishop Michael and Bishop Gene who came from Phoenix to celebrate this new beginning. Unsolicited donations were made for the beginning of a building fund. "The seed has been planted". There is much to do to set up a proper committee so look for details. But here are photos of the occasion. Thank you, George and Michael!!
